Iran's Judiciary announces a STOP to CHILD EXECUTIONS

Iran's Judiciary announces
a STOP to CHILD EXECUTIONS

On behalf of the Stop Child Executions organization I would personally like to THANK YOU for your efforts in our campaign.

We hope this latest news of Iran's desire to end the death penalty for minors is sincere and abide by their word . We are pleased that Iran is taking the right step forward but we are being cautious as we have seen announcements before where the Islamic Republic of Iran's officials have reneged on their statements . We at Stop Child Executions are hopeful that this is a battle that can be won. Our voices together really do make a difference and are being heard and addressed worldwide!

Iran's Judiciary announces a STOP to CHILD EXECUTIONS

Stop Child Executions organization welcomes with joy Iran’s announcement to abolish juvenile executions.

According to Iran's Assistant Attorney General for Judicial Affairs, Hossein Zabhi, a memorandum has been sent to all bodies of the Judiciary in Iran to stop child executions and instructed Judges to issue a maximum sentence of life imprisonment with possibility of parole after 15 years in lieu of execution.

Over the last few years, Stop Child Executions has continuously put pressure on Iran to abide by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the Charter of the Rights of the Child (CRC) to which it is state party and put a permanent end to executions of children who have committed an offence before the age of 18.

In September 2008, Stop Child Executions organized “Ahmadinejad’s Wall of Shame" rally outside of the United Nations in New York. A list of recommendations was issued urging Iran's Supreme Leader, Head of Judiciary and the Parliament to immediately stop child executions and implement the changes into law in Iran’s Parliament.

Stop Child Executions was also among 300 other NGO’s from 82 countries who called on the UN General Assembly in its recent annual debate on the Rights of the Child to take urgent action to end the death penalty for minors.

SCE would like to congratulate and thank all its supporters who have signed the petition including human rights defenders, lawyers, government officials, and journalists around the world who have been fighting along with them to end child executions in Iran.

While Iran is the worst offender of child executions with over 140 minors on death row and six executions of children this year alone, Stop Child Executions calls on other countries including Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Sudan and Pakistan to follow Iran’s lead in calling for an end to child executions.

All the volunteers at Stop Child Executions wish this overdue decision would have been implemented long before and give their condolences to the families of the 26 minors who have been executed in vain since 2005 and others prior to this date.

Stop Child Executions hopes Iran will abide by their announcement and looks forward to seeing the implementations of its other recommendations to Iran into law.

The judge said, 'We have to see the movie and then decide what we're going to do with you.'

Golshifteh Farahani plays Leonardo DiCaprio's love interest in 'Body of Lies' and fears exile from IranIran

Leonardo DiCaprio had to spend three months in Morocco filming his CIA thriller, "Body of Lies." But Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani, who plays his love interest, could face an even longer exile.

The gorgeous 25-year-old, one of Iran's biggest stars, is the first Iranian-based actress to appear in a Hollywood film since the 1979 Islamic revolution. She wonders about returning to her homeland now that a court there is weighing whether she broke Islamic law by making the film without permission.

"I had a lot of problems because of this movie," she told us at Sunday's New York premiere, where she caught up with co-stars DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Oscar Isaac and director Ridley Scott. "[Iranian officials] took my passport. The intelligence service interrogated me several times. In the end, the judge said, 'We have to see the movie and then decide what we're going to do with you.'"

It's hard to see what would bother them. Farahani plays a nurse who treats DiCaprio's character, but is wary of his advances, insisting that he first meet her family. She won't even shake his hand.

Though her passport has been returned, she doesn't know whether the hard-line government will seize it again if she returns. "I'm on trial," she said, turning down a waiter offering a glass of wine. The actress, who has been living in France with her husband, Amin Mahdavi, said, "I'm totally in love with Iran. I have family there. But now, if they want to see me, they have to leave."

Last month, Saudi Arabia's chief judge threatened to execute satellite broadcast providers who import "deviant" Western movies. It's no wonder Farahani is reluctant to venture even to relatively liberal Dubai, where "Body of Lies" is to be screened at the country's film festival.

"I'm going to stay here," she said. "I lost one opportunity to do a screen test, for 'The Prince of Persia.' I'm not ready for that again."

MOMINATION Adib Boroumand for The 2009 Nobel Prize for Literature

We are hereby honored to nominate
Abdolali Adib Boroumand,
for the 2009 Nobel Prize for literature

October 03, 2008

The Swedish Academy Committee for Nobel Nominations in Literature

Källargränd 4, Gamla Stan Stockholm, Sweden

Subject: The 2009 Nobel Prize for Literature

Dear Sirs/Madams,

We are hereby honored to nominate Mr. Abdolali Adib Boroumand,
Iran’s National Poet, political and human rights activist,
for the 2009 Nobel Prize for literature.

Mr. Boroumand, Born 1924, in the city of Isfahan, a lawyer by academics and profession, a linguist and literary icon, has been one of the most renowned poets of Iranian modern history. His seven books of poetry are collection of hundreds of poems he has written all in support of people’s struggle for freedom, democracy and human rights. His latest collection of poems in support of freedom movements around the world named “Message of Freedom” has been translated into 8 other languages such as English, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean Tagalog and Esperanto, and is being translated into a dozen more. His fans in Asian and western countries are dubbing him as an “International Poet” and setting up a multi-lingual site in order to make his works accessible internationally. His other books of collection are called “Moaning of Motherland”, “Familiar Pain”, Song of Liberation”, Secret of Flight” and “Fruits of Being” among others.

What makes Mr. Boroumand a special case in literature, aside from the literary quality of his poems and their delicateness and sensitivity, is the fact that he has been a political activist all his life, opposing tyranny and corruption, and struggling for democracy and human rights. Because of his political opposition activities during the Pahlavi monarchy and the Islamic Republic, he’s been jailed, refused media access or otherwise limited in public activities. He’s been addresses by colleagues and people who know him as Iran’s undisputed national poet. He has been in serving in the leadership council of Iran National Front, Iran’s oldest and most respected democratic political party and is now the head of INF Central Council as well. Upon invitation by the esteemed Academy, his full biography, works and support letters and signatures by many Iranian and international professors of literature and linguistics from the universities in Iran and abroad will be provided.

Respectfully submitted,

Kourosh Zaim, President

Guess Who's Coming for Dinner

Guess Who's Coming for Dinner

By
Kayvan Kaboli and Hassan Daoleslam

FrontPageMagazine.com Wednesday, September 24, 2008

On September 25th 2008, five American religious groups will host the Iranian president Mahmood Ahmadinejad, as they did last year during his 2007 visit to the UN.[1]
It is safe to assume that the purpose of the dinner won’t be a group interfaith prayer session. This event follows a series of trips by some American religious groups to Tehran. In fact, when these groups are not busy hosting Ahmadinejad here, they are hosted by him in Tehran. The "American Friends Service Committee" and "the Mennonite Central Committee," two of Ahmadinejad's dinner hosts in New York, visited Tehran in early 2007.[2]
These "peace" trips became fashionable after Ahmadinejad's ascendance to the presidency in 2005. The main organizer in the U.S. is the Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR) which has already arranged eight other trips since 2005.[3] For example, their May 2008 trip to Iran was locally organized by the "Islamic Culture and relations Organization," a governmental agency whose activities encompass a broad range from PR campaign for Tehran to assisting terrorist operations.[4]
Prior to the religious delegation’s arrival in Tehran, Rassouli, the head of Iranian host agency, declared: "The goal of this trip is to soften the negative image that the US media is spreading about Iran.” He predicted that the visitors would speak positively about Iran.[5]
Upon their return from Iran, these delegations behaved as the PR agents for one of the most brutal regimes on earth. Their trip diaries are ludicrous and disgraceful. They remind one of the Cold War era visits to the Soviet Union when the returning visitors praised Stalin and the joyful Gulags.
In Iran, according to these visitors, the religious minorities are well respected and enjoy ample freedom to practice their religion. The Iranian nuclear program is absolutely peaceful. The root cause of the nuclear dispute is the US administration who is looking for pretexts to wage another war. People are happy in Iran. They can freely talk about politics and their only worry is the US administration. Two sample excerpts follow:[6]
"The Iranian Archbishop, Doctor Ghorian Babian, praised the freedom of the religious minorities in Iran:
Archbishop Babian said it was important to respect the laws of each religion. In Islam, converting to another faith is punishable by death and foreign evangelism has been the reason for animosity towards western Christianity here. He said that he thought that it was hypocritical of the United States to claim the lack of human rights or religious freedom in Iran, when the U.S. policy in Saudi Arabia was to pump oil out of that country for 24 years but not to build a single chapel there."
Laurie, one American Christian living in Iran:
"Laurie said that aside from missing her family and the bother of having to dress in a chador, life was quite all right. When asked if people feel free to talk about politics, Laurie said that’s all they ever talk about!
She praised the improvements in health and education that have taken place since the revolution. Compared to Egypt, where there is so much poverty, Iranians are better off, she thought."
This unholy alliance is further augmented with the Iranian web of influence in the U.S. For example, PAX Christi USA is one group which has traveled to Iran on two occasions, one of which was with FOR delegation. Their report about the trip explained that:[7]
"One of the new relationships that Pax Christi USA entered into as a result of the delegation was with the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), the largest US based organization representing Iranian Americans. Later in the spring, Dave and NIAC staff Alex Patico, another delegation member, presented their insights on the Iranian situation to DC-based organizations at an event organized together with NETWORK. Dave continued to write and to speak on Iran to groups around the country in the months following the delegation."
Alex Patico, according to NIAC web site, is the co-founder of NIAC. He was also one of the delegates of 2006 trip to Tehran. After the trip, NIAC's president Trita Parsi accompanied the religious leader in a briefing in the Congress about Iranian nuclear program.[8]
Patico is also the US coordinator of another Iranian organization called CASMII (Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran) created in 2006. This group is a tenacious defender of the Iranian nuclear program. The readers are invited to visit CASMII's website to get the first hand views of this organization’s position on Iranian related issues.[9]
FOR and its allies organize many religious trips to Iran. This organization also has a broader range of activities with CASMII and other pro Tehran organizations. The latest example is their September 21st candle vigil organized by the Iranian regime in Tehran.[10]
While religious organizations are at it, the hosts of the September 25th gala might add to their dinner grace, the gratitude of the prosecuted religious minorities, tortured political prisoners, executed children, stoned women, hanged homosexuals and many other victims of the mullahs’ regime.

Im Iran wachsen die Spannungen zwischen Schiiten und Sunniten.

DW-World.de
Deutsche Welle

Teheraner Sunniten beten seither in Botschaften islamischer Länder.

SPIEGEL ONLINE

The crime of defending popular sovereignty and establishing democracy in Iran

Abbas Amir-Entezam
The Longest-Held Political Prisoner of Conscience
Serving the 29th Year of Imprisonment

July 18, 2008

To: The Secretary-General of the United Nations

Your Excellency Ban Ki-moon
The Esteemed Secretary-General of the United Nations

I am writing to you as the longest-held political prisoner in the Islamic Republic of Iran, and as a prisoner of conscious who has spent more than 29 years of his life in the regime’s dungeons for the crime of defending popular sovereignty and establishing democracy in Iran. I am currently on medical furlough in order to receive necessary treatment for medical conditions, the origins of which are the long imprisonment, as well as the maltreatment, malnutrition, and lack of medical care during my imprisonment. I am writing to you at a time of high tensions between Iran and the world community, the nuclear crisis, and the danger of another war.

Although cognizant of the regime’s extreme sensitivity about my activities, nevertheless I feel responsibility for the welfare of my compatriots. For the sake of defending the Iranian people’s rights to life and liberties, as well as for the sake of guarding peace in Iran and the crisis-ridden Middle East region, I am appealing to you. Through you and with your interjection, I appeal to the global community, humanity’s conscious, civil society institutions engaged in peace-building, and human rights supporters around the world.

Your Excellency,
The danger of war is so acute that only with mobilizing all the possible capabilities of the global community in support of the non-violent civil rights movement of the Iranian people, could we prevent this looming war.
The options that are on the table for the permanent members of the Security Council and the political leaders around the world, could not have any results other than increased harm to the material and ethical existence of the Iranian people. Increased sanctions, even smart sanctions, will increase the pain and suffering of the Iranian people with increased restrictions in the economic realm. These sanctions will only strengthen the regime-related smuggling groups as well as increase corruption, inflation, and unemployment. These sanctions will create shortages of various commodities and public necessities, which will gradually bury the Iranian people in mass graves.

On the other hand, the ruling regime will use the pretext of confronting foreign pressures to increase pressures on political, civil rights, and human rights activists in Iran. Under the excuse of confronting the enemy, the ruling regime will declare movements of the Iranian people for their freedoms and rights as unacceptable. The ruling regime will use the security environment in order to crush all movements of the civil society and bring absolute repression. Under such eerie conditions the regime will be taking the entire population of Iran as hostages.

For these reasons, it appears that the officials of this regime not only do not regard the kind of sanctions that have been imposed so far as any threat to their survival, but also welcome such sanctions. These sanctions will provide the regime the opportunity to declare war conditions, so that they could retaliate against the dissidents. In the same vein, threatening violence, in addition to creating irreparable costs for the Iranian people, will provide the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran the opportunity to increase repression at home, and continue the irresponsible and adventurist policies in all realms that will endanger the security of the Iranian people and those of the global community.

Neither war nor sanctions could change the behavior of the Islamic Republic regime in pursuing adventurism and accepting the necessities of international peace and security. Therefore, the only possible option is assisting the Iranian people to take leadership in managing their affairs and find an exit from the current impasse. In my opinion, the officials of the Islamic Republic will not accept freeze for freeze, nor will they accept the package of incentives offered by 5+1, because this regime needs crisis for its survival like one needs oxygen. For this reason, the nuclear dossier has provided the officials of the regime an opportunity to increase tensions, the necessary oxygen for regime survival.

If we think about and analyze the root causes of the nuclear crisis, we will easily discover that this crisis has its roots in the policies and strategic plans of the system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Islamic Republic’s system has been so structured that producing crisis for the Iranian people as well as for the region and the global community have been its routine behaviors. This regime does not believe in freedom, democracy, peace, and the right of the people to choose their own destiny. That is why this regime is not concerned and worried about economic difficulties, psychological security, and financial security of the Iranian people. And this regime does not hesitate to sacrifice the entire population of Iran for its adventurism. For a regime which has such behavior towards its own population, naturally this regime will not hesitate to engage in any kind of violence towards others and threaten the right of existence of other peoples around the world.

Your Excellency,
The Iranian people, who are the primary victims of this regime’s adventurist, arrogant, selfish, violent, bellicose, and inhumane policies, are at the forefront of the struggles to change the behavior of this regime. Therefore, it would be auspicious, if your excellency would utilize all the capabilities and abilities of the United Nations to help the Iranian people in the struggle to determine their own destiny and to establish freedom and democracy. Your responsibility in defending peace, international security, and the rights to lives and liberties of the Iranian people and the people of the world is a grave responsibility.

If you take brave and responsible actions, history will honor you. And conversely, if you do not take brave and responsible actions, history will judge you harshly. When you look at the history and civilization of the honorable people of Iran, you would judge that the Iranian people have the capabilities and abilities of the free people around the world to choose their own destiny and utilize their cultural and material capabilities to advance peace and democracy.

Perhaps the costs of helping the Iranian people under these conditions is very hard. But such costs are far less than the costs of war and increased crisis and insecurities in the region and the world.

Your Excellency,
The people of Iran extend their hands in solidarity to you, and through you to leaders around the world, as well as to freedom-loving and peace-loving people around the world. Helping the Iranian people, is helping the future of human kind.

Your Excellency,
My plea to you is very simple and at the same time is extremely significant. Demand the Islamic Republic to accept and implement all the primary conventions on human rights, conventions against torture, conventions against all forms of discrimination against women, and international criminal court’s treaty and laws as part of the confidence-building in the nuclear dossier and in order to have real control and monitoring of the nuclear activities. And the global community should utilize all its capabilities to monitor the regime’s respecting human rights, including charter of civil and political rights, and its voluntary protocols. Complete abiding of all human rights rules, norms, standards, and obligations in Iran is the key to solving the nuclear crisis as well as other crises in the region.

Your Excellency,
For the treatment of my medical conditions, I need to have access to my physicians at a moment’s notice. Returning me to prison again, may cause me to die. I am prepared to accept this heavy price with ease of mind in order to save the Iranian people from war, poverty, repression, starvation, catastrophe, mass killings, brain drain, and cultural destruction. By mentioning the possibility of my death, I wish to increase your moral responsibility so that you will go beyond traditional norms and activities of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and utilize all of the resources of the global community and use new and creative policies for the implementation of human rights rules and norms in Iran.

I am prepared to discuss the details of my plans and suggestions with your representatives and the experts whom you trust.

You can be certain that the great nation of Iran will be eternally grateful to you.

Sincerely yours,

ATOMSTREIT / EU verhängt weitere Sanktionen gegen Iran
